Comprehensive Assessments
Tara Taylor Speech Pathology offers comprehensive initial consultations and assessments for families. Speech Pathology assessment appointments range from 45 minutes to 3 hours and the number of assessment sessions will depend on your child’s age, compliance, skills and area(s) of concern. The Speech Pathologist may also recommend conducting a school or preschool visit as part of the assessment process.

For younger children, the assessment may be predominately play-based and involve observations of the child interacting with their parents and / or peers while also gaining detailed case history information regarding your concerns and your child’s development. For older children and adolescents, speech pathology assessments may involve examining a range of skills, such as speech, language, literacy and social communication skills.
Individual Therapy
Therapy sessions are 30, 45 or 60 minutes in duration. The length of the therapy session recommended will be discussed with you regarding the results of your child’s assessment outcomes. Goals are set discussed with the family at the initial appointment and discussed with other relevant health/ education professionals. Weekly therapy is usually recommended which can take place at the child’s home, school or preschool. Home practice activities are provided for families to maximise your child’s learning of the new skills.
Group Therapy
Group therapy sessions can be provided to develop children’s newly learned skills with their peers. Groups are allocated based on a child’s current needs. These sessions allow children to learn alongside others and put what they have learned into practice, in a supported environment. Often, children will benefit from individual therapy sessions, prior to group sessions. Your child’s individual needs can be discussed with our Speech Pathologist.
Convenient Mobile Service
In addition to our home clinic, TTSP offers a convenient mobile Speech Pathology service for busy families. Research suggests that therapy in the home, school or preschool environment results in an improved generalisation of communication goals. The Speech Pathologist can teach and demonstrate to the child how to use their new communication skills in their natural environment as opposed to in a clinic environment. Importantly, the best option for your child will be discussed with you prior to developing a therapy plan.
